Additional Informatio

  • Makwa (Bear)

It’s that time of a year again and the bears are up and walking around looking for food. Take into consideration that we live so close to the bear sanctuary that there will be some bears venturing into the village to find “easy” food sources, (garbage, bird feeders, dog/cat food).

Here are a few tips on keeping the bears to a minimum in the village this year.

    1. Keep garbage indoors overnight until morning of curbside pickup
    2. Use trash cans with lids.
    3. Keep dog/cat food inside.
    4. Do not discard food outside as it will attract bears, when they find food outside your house once, they will keep returning.

*If everyone could help and please follow these suggested tips, especially properly storing and disposing of garbage the bears would have no reason to stay in the heavily problem areas and move on.*

Any questions, comments, spotting, or suggestions of bears, please contact the Conservation Officer.
