477

The Bois Forte Reservation Tribal Council passed a resolution formally committing the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa Tribal Government to create and implement a 477 Program (see Attachment: “Bois Forte Tribal Government Resolution No. 10-2023”) and submit a 477 Plan to the U.S. Department of the Interior for that purpose. The Resolution explains that establishing a 477 Program will provide Bois Forte “greater flexibility in the development, operation, and coordination” of the programs it chose to include in its 477 Plan, thereby enabling it “to better serve its people and improve the efficiency of its own operations.”

To that end, the purpose of Bois Forte’s 477 Program is to integrate, coordinate, and strengthen those key employment, education, training, and related services most often needed by Bois Forte Band members – both adult and youth – as they strive to prepare for and secure employment, grow successful careers, and achieve self-sufficiency. The integration of these services will result in a single “one-stop center” where Bois Forte Band members can be assessed for and then receive a comprehensive, personally customized suite of services designed to empower them to overcome any obstacles that stand in the way of their successful advancement of their employment, education, and training endeavors.
