Validation and verification process

The forest carbon project has been submitted for registration under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), applying the VM0045 v1.1 Methodology for Improved Forest Management. To maintain compliance with VCS requirements, and prior to issuance of carbon credits, the project will first undergo a third party validation to confirm that the project design meets all of the eligibility requirements of the standard and methodology. The validation involves a site visit by an accredited auditor (“Validation and Verification Body” or “VVB”), followed by rounds of desk review and responses and revisions provided by the project team (led by ILTF). Once the validation process is completed (expected Q4 2026), the project will begin periodic measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) on cycles of every 5 years or less, through the end of the committed 20-year crediting period (ending June 2042). Each verification involves third party audit by a VVB, similar to the initial validation, but confirming the accurate measurement and reporting of carbon benefits generated by the Band’s forest stewardship and management. Issuance of credits (“Verified Carbon Units” or “VCU’s”) follows each successful verification, with marketing and sales supported by ILTF.

Validation updates

The project’s validation site visit was conducted by Aster Global, an independent third-party auditor, in February 2025. During the site visit, the audit team reviewed project documentation, assessed the project’s carbon accounting and monitoring systems, and met with Band representatives, community members, and other stakeholders to evaluate project implementation and stakeholder engagement activities.

The project is currently progressing through the validation process. The project team is working with the auditor to address findings, provide clarifications, and complete all requirements necessary for project registration. Updates will be posted here as they become available
