Statement from Bois Forte Reservation Tribal Council
The Bois Forte RTC has the following important updates for Band members and the Bois Forte community:
- Effective August 12, 2025, at 9am, District I Representative Perry Drift resigned from his seat on the RTC. The RTC took official action to accept this resignation and will provide an update on the process for filling this vacant seat soon.
- On August 11, 2025, a Petition for Removal under Article X of the Revised Constitution and Bylaws of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe was filed with the RTC Secretary-Treasurer outlining charges for removal against then-sitting RTC District I Representative Perry Drift. The RTC convened a Special Meeting on August 12, 2025, and determined through official action that the Petition satisfied the form and content requirements necessary for the Petition to proceed to the next phase (assessment of sufficiency of signatures). However, in light of Perry Drift’s resignation from his seat on the RTC, the RTC will not take further action on the Petition because Perry Drift is no longer a member of the RTC who is subject to the removal process. The RTC will be issuing a Resolution outlining the basis for this decision to be circulated publicly.
- Consistent with his statement at the RTC Meeting on August 6, 2025, RTC District I Representative Shane Drift informed the RTC in writing on August 12, 2025, that he was resigning from the position of Vice-Chairperson of the RTC, but remaining in his seat as District I Representative. The RTC through official action accepted the resignation and elected district II Representative Robert Moyer, Jr., as the new RTC Vice-Chairperson.
