Nett Lake Limited Opening Set for Saturday, 9/5/2026

Posted September 3, 2026

The Conservation/Wild Rice Committee met on Thursday, 9/3/2026 and decided on a limited opening date for rice harvest on Nett Lake.

The lake will open for Member rice harvest on SATURDAY, 9/5, 10 am-2 pm.

Ricing is with paddles-only.

Rice beds on the northeast side of the lake (Strongs landing up to and including all beds in Lost River Bay) will be flagged, and no rice collection should occur in those areas at this time as rice is still very green and needs to ripen. All other areas of the lake are open for harvest.

The Conservation Committee will monitor the pick and may decide to close the lake after the Saturday pick, to allow rice to continue ripening. Please watch for ENP flag color change from green to red, indicating lake closure.

Ricing permits are available directly from Bois Forte Conservation Officers and may be purchased at the The Nett lake C-Store, and at the Vermilion Community Center. Member ricing permit cost is $20.00.

Bois Forte DNR will purchase wild rice from pickers and will pay $5.00 per clean, dry pound. Rice buy will begin on Friday, September 11. Rice buying hours and location will be posted in an upcoming notice.
