Birch Pole Harvesting
Permits are for traditional (non-commercial) use only.
When you can gather:Â Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Limits: up to 25 birch poles per person
GATHERING RULES
- Trees must be 5 inches or less in diameter
- Stay at least 50 feet away from lakes, roads, campsites, and maintained trails
- You must carry your permit and Bois Forte ID
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS
- Coordinate with Forestry before gathering to receive your permit (free) and approved location
- Present harvested poles to Forestry staff for verification and recording
- Only 1 permit per person per year
- Maximum 3 permits per project/activity per year
- Weekend gathering may be available with Forestry approval—call ahead
