Statement on Ghost Lake Film

Posted May 11, 2026

As many of you are likely aware, in 2025 the Bois Forte Reservation Tribal Council was approached by individuals who were producing a film entitled “Ghost Lake”. The filmmakers requested approval from the RTC to shoot the film in various locations within the Bois Forte Reservation. The RTC formally granted that approval on April 1, 2026, subject to certain conditions, and filming was slated to begin this month.

Unfortunately, the RTC recently learned of allegations against an individual who has been closely affiliated with production of the Ghost Lake Film. After careful consideration, the RTC decided to revoke its approvals for the film and has directed the filmmakers to cease any production within the Band’s Territory.

We want to stress that this decision did not come lightly. The RTC continues to support the goal of the filmmakers to shed light on the fentanyl crisis impacting Indian Country. And we recognize and appreciate all of the work that the filmmakers, actors, and other staff have put into the planning and production for this project. However, in light of recent developments, the RTC believes that separating its association with the film is the best approach at this time.
