The Tribal Council is looking to gather input from the Band Members on how to fill the Dist. I Representative vacancy – appointment by RTC or holding a special election.

According to MCT Election Ordinance Section 1.2(B) (2):

“If a vacancy due to death, removal, or resignation occurs on the Band governing body less than 365 days, but more than 180 days, before the next scheduled Primary Election, the Band governing body may call a Special Election, or appoint a person who is qualified to serve…to fill vacancy and serve until the next Regular Election is held and the successful candidate is seated.”

APPOINT

• RTC appoints qualified individual to fill vacancy.
• Appointed member must meet eligibility requirements outlined in
  MCT Election Ordinance.
• Individual appointed fills vacancy through 2026 Regular Election. The seat is then filled during the 2026 Regular Election and the elected candidate serves for the remainder of the term (until 2028).
• Appointment process is conducted internally by the RTC.

SPECIAL ELECTION

• Seat is filled through Special
  Election running from
  approximately Aug ’25 to Dec ’25.
• Elected candidate remains in seat for the remainder of term (until 2028).
• Tribal Government cost to run
  special election = approximately $80,000.
• 2026 Regular Election occurs normally with no added seat.
