Statement regarding Federal Funding Freeze

Boozhoo Band Members, community members and employees.

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, The Bois Forte Tribal Council and Tribal Government employees became aware of a Memorandum for Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies issued by Matthew J. Vaeth, Acting Director, Office of Management and Budget that issues a pause on federal financial assistance.

Issues related to the pause are changing rapidly, and we are assessing the possible impacts the pause will have on the Tribal Government and its services.  On Wednesday afternoon OMB rescinded the Memo pausing federal funding, but emphasized that the Trump Administration will continue to review federal programs.  It remains unclear whether federal funding sources will be restricted in short or long-term.

The Bois Forte Reservation Senior Management and program staff are contacting funding agencies to gather any information we can.

The Tribal Council met with Senior Management today and discussed the current status of the Band with the most up to date information we had.  Currently, Senior Management is developing Emergency Financial Preparedness Plans and considering changes that we may need to make in the future.

At this time, services and programs will remain uninterrupted.

We will meet bi-weekly to assess and monitor the information and provide updates to all of you as information becomes available.

Band Members are encouraged to carry your Tribal Identification Card or Certificate of Indian Blood Certification on you at all times.  If you need a new Tribal ID or CIB, please contact Kathie Holman at 218/757-3261, ext. 1162 or kathie.holman@boisforte-nsn.gov. The Bois Forte Tribal Council has waived all reissue fees for one-year effective January 29, 2025. Proper documentation to obtain your ID is still required.
